Tips for redecorating my bedroom?

Posted by admin in modern style interior design on 04 30th, 2009

I would like to redecorate my bedroom this week while the hubby (A fussy metrosexual with an interior design degree and who has redone the whole house in italian modern) is gone. I figure I should get atleast one room in my style!

I love the glamour of the 1920's, flappers and old hollywood and would like to do my room in this theme.

http://www.secondlooks.net/Gallery4/Hobbies/images/PA120020ee.jpg
I have a vanity that looks a bit like this, but mine is walnut

I have a Black brass bed with deep red taffeta bedding and gold throw pillows,

I also have some misc things like a vintage radio, vintage 1920's dresses, old shawls etc.

I have a cool lamp and chair, both with leopard print.

So that is what I have to work with.

What prints, acsessories, misc furniture, etc etc etc could you suggest.

I guess what I need an nice atmosphere to the room, so any suggestions, would be appreciated!!
I was thinking of using a movie like Chicago as an inspiration.

My favorite colors to decorate are golds, deep red, rich blue, white, black.

I love the sleekness art Deco, some Victorian is nice, but too much is over kill for me.

Maybe try some soft, silky fabrics, pictures/prints from the era, black and white, maybe display your vintage dress like a piece of art.

What interior styles do you like?

Posted by admin in modern style interior design on 04 27th, 2009

From modern to Victorian. whats your favorite style? I’m working on an interior design business so I want to know what people like. Thanks!

I like the cabin or rustic cabin look. You know with bears, and the whole woodsy thing with lots of reds and tans/browns for the colors and maybe some of the darker greens in there too.

Vintage or Modern?

Posted by admin in modern style interior design on 04 20th, 2009

What type of style brings you in more, vintage or modern? This could be for clothes, interior design, etc etc

Vintige IS modern, so, you'll be "in" more if you dress, or use vintige in your daily lifestyles.

I may be moving. My son bought a 3 family home in my present neighborhood. I need interior design advice.?

Posted by admin in modern style interior design on 04 17th, 2009

It's an old style home built in 1900. Rooms a smaller than I'm use too but the home I have now is gigantic and I can't see keeping it after the kids are gone. In this new home, my youngest son will live with his wife on the 3rd floor, the home owner, my eldest son will live on the 2nd floor and my husband and I have the 1st floor. The kitchen and bath need a complete remodel. Hard wood floors and lovely door and window trim, also also finished wood. The house overlooks a marina and river. Presently my home is decorated in a Tuscan style with the use of earth elements, leather, wood and stone. Not sure it'll have the same appeal in the new place. There is also about an acre of land, fruit trees, grapevines and sun porches that overlook them.
Please give me some idea's for apartment decorating. I've never lived in an apartment. I'm not into "modern", more Tuscan or I would consider something the complement the water (river). Thanks
Excuse me, I meant something that compliments the river.

how about a garden theme, or paint murals on the walls with a Tuscan slant? Maybe more Roman Garden?
hgtv.com, rate my space, search for "Northville" for ideas.

Can I mix modern with Old World style?

Posted by admin in modern style interior design on 04 11th, 2009

For those interior decorators out there…. I live in an apartment and decorating is difficult. This apt has forest green carpet (I know lol) but I like this apt because it has a built in bar between the kitchen and living room. I decided to go with a wine bar theme for the place. focal point in the living room is an elec. fireplace, dark espresso finish. Modern coffee /end tables also in espresso, dark chocolate modern leather sofa and chairs, and ottomans… bright burgundy accents and pillows. Now, everything so far is modern…. I want to use all old world style accessories. Can I do this? I have antique leather bound books, treasure chests, wrought iron wall hangings and candle holders, antique pendulum clock , and tiffany style lamps. Finished color scheme would be dark brown, burgundy/wine, forest green, off white (walls), and some gold and wrought iron.

Can I mix modern furniture with old world style accessories and get away with it, or is this a no no in design circles?

Sounds very interesting. I think you should be careful not to make things “too busy”. Less is more. Add a (little) modern, and a (little) old world. It will work together, just be careful not to overdue it. You don’t want your place to look over crowded. Small areas look bigger with less objects in them. Sounds like you have a great sense of style. Stick with it!
